After years spent planning, saving, dreaming and waiting out covid - it finally becomes real. Our little slice of hilltop heaven in the valley of the Gunung Leuser National Park is difficult to walk up, let alone drive up. Before we can begin building our home and ecolodge, or replanting the forest that once was here, we need to create a path for a road and level out a few areas. So we hired an excavator and operator to get the off grid earthworks happening.
I was astounded by the skill with which the machine operator worked and how quickly the landscape was transformed in only a week. Having to deal with spring water seeping through the lower areas of the land created a boggy mess, yet somehow a clear path began to emerge.
