In 2022 we begun the adventure of building Our Jungle Ecolodge on a spectacular 3 hectare block of land on the edge of Ketambe. The site sits on a steep hill overlooking the Alas River with jungle and mountain views in every direction. It's a breathtaking spot with cool breezes and a natural spring. We are slowly regenerating the land by planting hundreds of fruit trees and local native plants.
The first building on the property was completed in 2024. It's a 3 room wooden longhouse built in the traditional style, with a luxuriously large share bathroom. The spacious and airy guest rooms each have a private balcony overlooking the mountains. Complete with table and chairs to sit and watch the wildlife and take in the views. The bathroom features separate rooms for toilet, shower and vanities, abundant natural light, brass fittings and hot water shower. Rainwater is collected from the roof as our sole water source and the building is designed with passive cooling methods to capture natural breezes and keep sleeping areas shaded. Solar panels power the majority of our electricity, shielding us from the common power outages faced in the village below.
Our 300m long driveway from the main road snakes steeply up the tallest hill for several kilometres around, keeping the longhouse private and secluded. The ecolodge is currently unmarked at the main road, but if you follow the stone & concrete road up the hill from this location, you will find us up the top. Alternatively, if you book a private taxi through us from Medan or elsewhere, we can pick you up from the main road by 4WD and save you the walk up.
Prices depend on the number of people occupying the room. Please get in touch to enquire about booking a room before arrival. Until our restaurant building is complete and all rooms are ready, we are only accepting guests who book prior to arrival.

Puis nous avons fait un trek de 2 jours dans la jungle accompagnés de Safar et son frère Sabri. Tous deux sont passionnés, investis et riches de savoirs. La faune et la flore sont uniques dans la jungle. Nous avons du mal à réaliser tout ce que nous avons vécu et appris depuis 3 jours, on se sent très chanceux.. Wir haben mit Safar eine zweitägige Tour durch den faszinierenden Dschungel von Ketambe unternommen. Nach weniger als 15 Minuten hielten wir an und entdeckten eine kleine Familie von Orang-Utans, die hoch in den Bäumen saß – einfach atemberaubend. Wir erlebten heiße Quellen, beobachteten Orang-Utans, übernachteten in der Wildnis und wurden köstlich bekocht. Bei dem sanften Rauschen des Flusses fanden wir dann einen gemütlichen Schlafplatz. Obwohl wir nur zwei Tage im Dschungel verbrachten, fühlten wir uns, als wären wir eine Woche in diesem üppigen Grün gewesen. Absolute Empfehlung! We stayed with Safar and Jenna before and after our jungle trek which we also organised with them. We highly recommend both the jungle trek and staying in their lodge. They were super welcoming and made us feel very much at home in this beautiful part of Indonesia. Safar and Jenna, toured my friend and me around the property after our 4-day jungle trek. It's truly a magical place, situated atop a hill with 360-views of the surrounding jungle. We learned about their plans of using sustainable construction practices (specifically earth bags and local materials), and their dreams of creating a "community-feel" inspired by nature. So cool!
